Representative Publication “Czech Modern Architecture” Showcases the Development of Czech Architectural Heritage from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day in a European Context
The publication “Czech Modern Architecture” offers a unique perspective on the architectural development of the Czech lands in the context of historical events and cultural transformations. The book, which will be published in both Czech and English versions, will be officially launched on June 24 at the European Parliament in Brussels under the patronage of the Association of Regions of the Czech Republic and all Czech governors.
This publication is the work of renowned architectural historian Prof. Vladimír Šlapeta, a laureate of the prestigious UIA Jean Tschumi Prize, awarded by the International Union of Architects for outstanding contributions in the field of architectural criticism.
The book not only maps architectural movements, significant buildings, and key figures but also places architecture in a broader historical and cultural context. By connecting facts, relationships, and the historical development of the Czech lands into a cohesive narrative, the publication becomes a significant contribution to understanding and promoting Czech architecture, both domestically and internationally.
Accompanying Publication: “Guide to Czech Architecture”
The publication will be complemented by a separate volume, “Guide to Czech Architecture,” which maps the most significant buildings across all 14 regions of the Czech Republic. The selection of buildings will be curated by a collective of architects from each region under the guidance of Prof. Vladimír Šlapeta, creating a unique overview of representative works of modern Czech architecture.
The book will be distributed to major European institutions, presenting Czech architecture as an essential part of European cultural heritage. Its aim is not only to popularize Czech architecture but also to serve as an invitation to visit the Czech Republic and its architectural landmarks.
